What Makes Chateau de la Forge A Great Holiday Rental
Families & friends wanting lots of for space and privacy in elegant surroundings in a classic corner of France.
Anything to watch out for:
Why the Perigord region?
The Perigord region has long been a magnet for visitors and you can see why: a timeless landscape, exceptional food & wine, bustling markets, beautiful villages and towns both along the Dordogne river and elsewhere - Périgueux itself, often overlooked, is stunning - not to mention its ancient history. It is a haven for walkers (there are several trails from the chateau itself), and cyclists will love the quiet lanes passing through sleepy villages. Or try the nearby lakeside beach (Neufont) and go paddle-boarding, or kayaking on the Dordogne itself to take in the region's beauty from the river.
Tastefully & thoughtfully renovated 17th century chateau, the epitome of elegance and character
Entering the long-tree-lined driveway through meadows up to the chateau you know you have arrived somewhere special. At the end the chateau sits proudly surrounded by 35 acres of private estate, the perfect place to unwind and recharge in space & privacy.
Inside, the accommodation is over two floors and 450 square metres, comprising:
All 6 bedrooms are located upstairs:
There are two mains areas of garden:
The west-facing pool-side terrace, with outdoor dining table & chairs, several sun-loungers, and barbecue, overlooking the glorious pool: 18m x 4m, heated, 1-1.2m deep, protected by an electric cover.
The east-facing terrace - a lovely spot for breakfast - overlooks a more formal area of gardens with meadows beyond, with another outdoor dining tabel & chairs and barbecue.
Beyond, the 32 acre estate features meadows, a brook and a pond, and several walks are possible from the chateau.
5 double bedrooms (160cm or 180cm), 1 twin bedroom (2x 80cm) which can be made up as a double
All ensuite - 4 shower rooms and 2 bathrooms, each with WC
18m x 4m, 1.2-2m deep, protected by electric cover
The house is set well back from a minor road in the western Périgord; it is about a mile to the local village Pont-Saint-Mamet, with its well-stocked grocery store. Within a short drive there are several good restaurants, and markets can be found somewhere not far away most days - we provide a guide at the house. Bergerac, Périgueux, and the Dordogne river are just 30 minutes away by car, and the region's historic sites and famous villages not much further.
