Anything to watch out for:
The living room and bedrooms are more cottage than contemporary in style, with some quirky vintage elements (shown in the photos) which we loved.
Why Ile de Ré:
A chic and understated island destination connected by bridge from La Rochelle. Known for a lovely climate and authentically French, almost Mediterranean, feel. Dotted with charming harbour towns and character villages, connected by an extensive network of cycle trails with criss-crosses the island through fields & vineyards, woodland and salt-marshes. It offers something for everyone: markets, boutiques, watersports (esp. sailing, surfing, paddle-boarding, kite-surfing), markets & food halls, fantastic choice of restaurants. And now part of Nouvelle Aquitaine, where it belongs!

Pretty, charming & well-equipped 17th century townhouse with lovely courtyard garden
The entrance to Maison Merindot is pure Ile de Ré: historic façade in a cobbled lane, painted front door in lovely green shade, antique knocker, ancient well outside. The doorway takes you through a lovely courtyard garden to the entrance hall and into the house itself - and suddenly a world away from the street outside.
Inside the houses mixes the modern and vintage delightfully - smart & very well-equipped kitchen, nicely-fitted bathrooms, very comfortable bedrooms and spacious living-dining-sitting room featuring charming vintage and antique items which give away the owners' love for visiting brocantes. (One half is a successful interior designer.)
The good-sized entrance hall - plenty of space for flip flops, beach bags, etc - leads in to a lovely kitchen with Neff oven and microwave. Bosch induction hob, Miele dishwasher and Nespresso machine. (Please bring your own Nespresso capsules due to a shortage on the island.)
An open doorway leads into the main salon, a a large open plan room with beautiful chandeliers and antique furniture. There is a large sofa, two armchairs, dining table and chairs to seat 4, and a large screen television and DVD player.
The two bedrooms are on the first floor, one a large double bed with wardrobe, the other a large zip & link double bed which can be separated into twins.
The second shower room (with WC and basin) is also upstairs.
On the top floor is a quiet working corner with desk & chair, and window with views over the rooftops of St Martin de Ré.
Outside the lovely courtyard garden features a delightful garden room with original tiled roof that opens directly onto the small courtyard garden. It has a dining table and chairs, cushions, vintage lighting all for you to enjoy eating outside, plus day bed for those holiday siestas!
On the lane outside the house is a secure ring for fastening bikes - saves them cluttering up the courtyard. There are two large public car parks on the outskirts of town about 500m from the house: you can drop unload outside then it's a 10 minute walk back.
One bedroom has a large king-size bed, the other has zip & link single beds which can be joined to make a large double
Two shower rooms both with basin & WC, one upstairs, one downstairs
